“He lives in us”, the official hymn of the Dehonian Jubilee

Dear Religious and Members of the Dehonian Family,

Following the Dehonian Jubilee Hymn Contest, extended until April 15, 2025, among the beautiful proposals received, the International Commission of the Dehonian Jubilee chose as official hymn the proposal sent by Fr. Simão Pedro Claudino dos Santos SCJ, with the title “He lives in us”.

The original text, in Portuguese, seeks to present some aspects of Father Dehon’s life and his experience of faith (cf. Cst 2), whose source is the contemplation of the Heart of Jesus, which gave rise to the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The hymn invites us to celebrate the centenary of the death of the Founder and the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Congregation as an opportunity to exalt, as Father Dehon did, the Heart of Christ that lives in us (cf. Gal 2:20).

The author of the hymn, Fr. Simão Pedro Claudino dos Santos SCJ, is a member of the Southern Brazilian Province (BRM) and currently works as a missionary in Ji-Paraná, Rondônia, in northern Brazil (Amazon region). He was ordained a Dehonian priest in 2010 and also worked for several years in the mission in Paraguay.

In addition to the original version of the hymn in Portuguese, the International Commission of the Dehonian Jubilee offers the lyrics and score of the adapted versions in English, French, Italian, and Spanish and encourages other realities of the Dehonian family to create versions in other languages. Furthermore, the Commission, in addition to the lyrics of the hymn in the various languages currently available, also makes available – in the original version only – the audio recording, hoping that audio versions in other languages will soon be available.
