History tells us that the name of the current country of Angola originates from the Bantu language, from an ancient kingdom called Dongo. N’golo in the Kimbundu and Kikongo languages means strength.
This truly reflects the Angolan people. They are strong because they have endured many conflicts, and yet they still manage to maintain the strength and joy needed to live and keep on fighting.

We traveled many kilometers on roads where the only light we saw came from wood-burning stoves that families use to cook, heat their homes, and gather together. The staple food is cassava. Angolan cuisine is very tasty. However, many people have very little to eat. Thank God, nature is very generous. There are delicious fruits and vegetables.

Public transportation is improving, but slowly. Many areas still lack electricity. Malaria is a major health issue and remains the leading cause of death in the country.

Despite so many challenges, the Superior General and I found the people joyful and respectful. They sing and dance as if they had been trained in the best art schools. They are generous, even though they have almost nothing.

But there is hope. New roads and airports have been built. Trains connect the cities. Investments are being made. The question is whether everyone will benefit from this progress or if things will remain as they have always been, with a small group keeping control and enjoying most of the goods that, in principle, belong to everyone!

There are 13 of our religious in the District of Angola, spread across the communities of Viana, Luau, and Luena. Through their work, they help keep hope alive. May other entities be willing to send more missionary religious to these lands!

Those who serve there are of Portuguese and Congolese origin, and there are also Angolans. In fact, there are many candidates being considered in the three communities. May God grant them perseverance!

We encountered a district with great potential! The purpose of our fraternal visit was to support and accompany our confreres and their mission so that they can increasingly be at the service of justice and solidarity in the name of the Church and the Congregation.

May the Heart of Jesus bless Angola and grant everyone health, fidelity, and great STRENGTH!
