From March 24 to 28, 2025, the major superiors of Latin America gathered in the city of Camaragibe, metropolitan region of Recife, Brazil. The meeting was a wonderful opportunity for reflecting, sharing, and collaborating on the life and mission of our Congregation in this geo-cultural area. Fr. Pedro Silva de Moura, provincial superior of BRE who welcomed all participants with great generosity and open heart. Fr. Vien Nguyen (USA) and Fr. Gustave Lulendo N’dotony (CAN) also took part as invitees representing the entities of North America, and Fr. Willyans Prado Rapozo, general councillor was present on the behalf of the general government.

The first days were dedicated to reporting the status of each entity, sharing their main challenges in the service of leadership, and the possible assistance they can get from each other, the general government, and the whole Congregation. It was also a time to discern and suggest topics for the meeting of major superiors which will be held in August in St. Quentin, France.

The programmatic letter (2024-2023), “Abide in my Love”, was presented and participants discussed the “three pillars”, identity, communion, and mission, seeking to apply the proposed projects to their own reality. It was also an occasion to share insights on the future mission of Cuba, as the first SCJ presence in Central America. On Thursday morning, Fr. Carlos Luis Suárez Cordoniú, superior general, joined us online to remind of the importance of celebrating together the Dehonian Jubilee, particularly the events to be held in Quito, Ecuador. Finaly, towards the end the week, major superiors were able to finalize the statutes of this geo-cultural conference. Soon the document will be sent to Rome for approval.

These were indeed five days of Dehonian fraternity in the spirit of Sint Unum which we lived in common prayer, exchange of experiences, and quality time spent together. There was a beautiful atmosphere of joy, spontaneity, and mutual appreciation. We are grateful to the Holy Spirit who guided us throughout these days, to Fr. Dehon who is surely interceding for the work he has begun, and to all confreres who constitute our beautiful religious family.

May the Heart of Jesus be praised now and forever!
