The Southern Brazilian Province (BRM) Celebrates with New Consecrated Members
Between Jaraguá do Sul, Rio Negrinho, and Itajaí, a series of joyful events—including religious professions, perpetual vows, and a diaconal ordination—have manifested the vitality of the Dehonian mission in the Southern Brazilian Province (BRM) over recent weeks.

Twelve New Professed Members

On February 2, 2026, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the Church of Nossa Senhora das Graças in Jaraguá do Sul became the heart of the Congregation. Under the watchful eyes of their families and numerous international superiors, twelve novices pronounced their “yes” through their first profession of the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience.

The celebration held deep symbolic meaning as it was presided over by Bishop Vital Chitolina, SCJ, of Diamantino, who was celebrating his 50th anniversary of religious life that same day. Among the newly professed, six belong specifically to the BRM Province and are now preparing to begin their “Tirocínio” (pastoral internship) in various communities across the region, from Brusque to Ji-Paraná . The other six members belong to other Dehonian entities: Brazil-São Paulo (2), Brazil-Recife (2), Venezuela (1), and Angola (1) .

Retreat and Renewal of Vows

The brothers currently in their internship and those pursuing theological studies in Taubaté, São Paulo, renewed their vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience on Saturday, January 30, in accordance with the Constitutions of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This followed a spiritual retreat held at the São José Seminary in Rio Negrinho from January 26 to 30. Guided by Archbishop Emeritus Murilo Sebastião Ramos Krieger, SCJ, of Salvador, the young religious meditated on the theme: “The Kingdom of God is near you”. For these theology students and interns, this rite is not a mere formality but an act of reparation and offering, inspired by the Dehonian Ecce Venio (“Behold, I come”).

Perpetual Vows and Diaconal Ordination of Tiago Júnior Waier, SCJ

The crowning moment of these festivities was undoubtedly the definitive commitment of Frater Tiago Júnior Waier, SCJ. His journey reached two crucial milestones within 48 hours:

  • Perpetual Vows: On Friday, February 6, in Itajaí, he sealed his lifelong covenant with the Congregation during a Mass presided over by the Provincial Superior, Fr. Sildo César da Costa, SCJ.
  • Diaconal Ordination: The following day, Saturday, February 7, in Guabiruba, he was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Wilson Tadeu Jönck, SCJ, of Florianópolis.

Surrounded by many concelebrating priests—including Fr. Lucas Luís Matheus de Mello (São Paulo Province) and Fr. Marilton Nuss—the new deacon is now sent to serve at the altar and among those most in need, embodying the figure of Christ the Servant.

These celebrations, concluded with the traditional rallying cry “Vivat Cor Iesu!”, confirm that Father Dehon’s charism continues to find a profound resonance in the heart of Brazil.
