“Zbieramto” („Icollectit”) – Helping Missions “Without Money”
The Secretariat of the Foreign Missions run by Dehonians in Poland is triying through the "Zbieramto” project to interest people in the missionary work of Dehonians.
How to interest people in the missionary work of Dehonians? An interesting initiative is the “Zbieramto” project (pol. „Icollectit” project), which operates under the Secretariat of the Foreign Missions run by Dehonians in Poland. Its initiator, Fr. Piotr Chmielecki SCJ, came up with the idea in 2013 to collect old, damaged, and incomplete silver and gold jewelry to produce The Dehonian crosses. In the following years, the idea expanded to include the collection of other items such as unused watches, broken mobile phones, or coins and banknotes from all over the world. These items are either recycled or sold on the secondary market. All to support missions.
Over the last 10 years of the “Zbieramto” project, missionaries and their beneficiaries have received more than 500,000 euros through the collection of various items and materials.
Thanks to this support, in 2024, the Secretariat of Foreign Missions was able to build, among other things, wells in Chad. “The last two wells were built in the villages of Madra and Kogn, where there had never been a well before. People had to draw water only from the river or open holes. The value of a well with clean water is priceless… Other villages are already asking and waiting for their wells…“, said Fr. Jakub, a missionary in Chad.
All of this is aimed at enabling missionaries to focus on proclaiming the Good News. Without meeting basic human needs, it is difficult to preach the Gospel.
