Strengthening the Quality of Dehonian Community Life: Visit of the Superior General to India
The Superior General, Fr. Carlos Luis Suárez, SCJ arrived in Chennai in the early hours of January 21, beginning his journey at the District House and the local parish community. His itinerary has spanned the breadth of the SCJ presence in India, including visits to various communities, formation houses, and convents.
A significant milestone occurred on January 29, 2026, when Fr. Carlos presided over the establishment of a new SCJ house and parish community in Vempadu, marking a tangible expansion of the Dehonian mission.
Strengthening Dehonian Identity
Throughout the visit, Fr. Carlos has delivered a consistent message: the necessity of deepening the quality of communal life. Key highlights of his message include:
Community Life Projects: the call for every community to develop a structured project that integrates spiritual, pastoral, and communal dimensions.
The Dehonian Jubilee: utilizing the Jubilee program as a catalyst for renewing the vitality and meaning of their shared vocation.
Looking Toward the Future
Fr. Michael Augustine, SCJ, Superior of the India District, noted that these discussions have been pivotal in the District’s journey toward becoming a Region. This transition represents more than a title; it signifies a maturing mission with greater responsibility for the Dehonian presence within the Indian context.
The visit is set to conclude with an annual retreat for the first batch of Indian SCJs, held from February 9 to 13 at Christu Dehon Nivas (Theologate).
