Exploring Léon Dehon’s Legacy: Taubaté Hosts the 7th International Dehonian Theological Seminar
From July 30 to August 4, the city of Taubaté, São Paulo, will host the 7th International Dehonian Theological Seminar, which is typically held every three years by the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Dehonians).
The Faculdade Dehoniana and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Convent (Conventinho) are hosting the event, which brings together Dehonian religious from various regions of the world to reflect on the theme: Dehon in his texts: exploring the implied authorial presence of Léon Dehon in his various writings
The seminar aims to encourage every member of the Dehonian family to become acquainted with and delve deeper into the legacy left by the Founder, as expressed in his extensive body of work: books, articles, letters, his diary, and his autobiography. This event takes place within the context of the jubilee period, marked by the 100th anniversary of his death (2025) and the 150th anniversary of the Congregation’s founding (2028).
The event will open at 5:00 p.m. on July 30, with welcoming remarks by Fr. Carlos Luis Suarez Codorniú, Superior General, and Fr. Eli Lobato dos Santos (Superior of the Brazil São Paulo Province—BSP), followed by introductory remarks from the Scientific Committee.
The program includes six sessions featuring presentations and discussions on specific areas of Father Dehon writings, led by the continental theological commissions. For example, the African commission (CTDAF) will address Father Dehon’s “Correspondence”. The European Commission (CTDEU) will present a lecture on biographical writings, focusing on Notes Quotidiennes 35–45. For its part, the North American Commission (CTDNA) will present research on the spiritual works, focusing on an analysis of “Crowns of Love”. The Asian Commission (CTDAS) will address the articles, prioritizing the texts from the journal “Chronicles of the Southeast”. Finally, the Latin American Commission (CTDAL) will explore Father Dehon’s social writings, with particular attention to the “Social Catechism”.
The official languages of the Theological Seminar are French and English, and simultaneous translation into other languages will be available during the event through the AI-powered translation platform Wordly
