Our confrere, a member of the Confederation of the Dutch and Flemish Province of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Ark Hospice in Roermond,

Jan worked most of his life abroad. After studying Philosophy, he left as a missionary to Brazil in 1946. There he received priestly ordination. From 1957 he worked as the rector of the minor seminary in Varzea. Then he was appointed provincial treasurer, and parish priest in Iputinga.

In 1969 he returned to the Netherlands and became a member of the Dutch Province again. The following year he left again as a missionary to Rotterdam. From 1975 the office was located in Cadier en Keer.

He continued pastoral work in Germany and in 1982 was appointed pastor in Neustadt. He then served in a home for the elderly in Viersen. From 1992 to 1995, he also served as rector of the Dutch Brothers in Karken, Germany. After that, he returned to Cadier en Keer. In 2006 he moved to Asten. In 2019 Jan went to Roermond, his home region, to be closer to his family. Jan was much loved by people and still in his old age was in touch with many people he had met in his long life. He regularly received phone calls from Brazil and Germany. A pastor who had been an example to all and had gained many friends. He will be missed by many.

We remember Father Jan Dingelstad in our prayers.
