Cross-Island Solidarity for NTT Earthquake Victims
The Indonesian Dehonian family is mobilizing through its island networks to provide relief to the victims of the earthquake that struck the region on August 15, 2026.
East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is an archipelagic region located in the eastern part of Indonesia. On August 15, 2026, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the area. According to official data, 103 people
lost their lives, and 1,666 others were injured, not including the extensive damage to buildings and local infrastructure. It is worth noting that the disaster site is quite far from the areas where the Indonesian Priests of the Sacred Heart (SCJ) primarily serve.
In response to the crisis, driven by a shared commitment to Dehonian compassion, the Indonesian Dehonian family has mobilized across island networks to raise nearly 1 billion IDR (approx. $63,500 USD) in relief funds for communities devastated by the recent earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT).
The fundraising campaign—a joint effort uniting Dehonian lay movements and Dehonian-administered parishes from Sumatra to Java—drew an overwhelming response from parishioners and donors eager to offer direct support to displaced families.
To ensure efficient, ground-level distribution, Dehonian Indonesia is partnering with the Sisters of the Good Shepherd (RGS), leveraging their established ministry networks and deep local roots across NTT.
A relief team comprising Dehonian volunteers and RGS Sisters will deploy to the affected regions from September 1–4 to deliver essential aid and assist with early recovery efforts.
This initiative stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Sacred Heart, demonstrating how Father Dehon’s vision continues to transcend geographical boundaries to bring tangible hope and comfort to those facing adversity.
