PANAMA CITY, PANAMA 2019
“Mary, God’s ‘influencer’. In a few words, I was able to say ‘yes’, trusting in God’s love and promises, the only force capable of making all things new.”
With Pope Francis, there were more than 600,000 young people. On the theme of the days, Pope Francis recalled the love with which Mary, Mother of Jesus, said yes: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to your word”. “Like Mary, we want to be a Church that favors a culture that knows how to welcome, protect, promote and integrate” – declared the Pope. The Pope exhorted young people to live a “common dream” that involves everyone: “a dream called Jesus”: “the culture of encounter is a call and an invitation to have the courage to keep a common dream alive”. Francis also recalled the words of St. Óscar Romero: “Christianity is a Person who loved me so much, who claims and asks for my love. Christianity is Christ”. When saying goodbye, we learned that the next World Youth Days would take place in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2022. The pandemic pushed them to 2023.
