In April 1987, more than 900,000 young people pray with the Pope in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Double the previous year. WYD’s motto is “This is how we know the love that God has for us and we trust in that love”. John Paul II addresses the young people of South America, the “continent of hope”: “Young people, Christ, the Church, the The world awaits the witness of life from all of you, based on the truth that Christ has revealed to us! Young people, the Pope thanks you for your witness and encourages everyone to always be witnesses of God’s love, sowers of hope and builders of peace!”.
