The next World Youth Day will take place in Portugal (WYD 2023).
The next World Youth Day will take place in Portugal. With a clear Catholic identity; however, open to all the world’s youth. This pilgrimage is a meeting of young people from all over the world with the Pope.
The first gathering was in the city of Rome in 1978. WYD, so called in its abbreviated form, aims to provide all participants with a universal Church experience, fostering a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. World Youth Day will be a moment of revitalization and dynamism for the Church.
About 30 million participants were present in the 33 pilgrimages already held. Countries such as Poland, Brazil, Spain, Australia, Germany, the Philippines, and Argentina have hosted the event throughout its history. The Church needs you, and your especially your youthful enthusiasm, creativity, and joy! The next gathering of WYD will be in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2023. The theme chosen was: “Mary arose and went with haste”
In his address for the Day, Pope Francis called on young Catholics to become more involved in the Church: “The Church needs you to be fully herself.”
We, young Dehonians, will be present, and you?
