Ordinations in Gurué: A Wind of Fervor and Hope for the Church in Mozambique

On August 28 and 29, 2026, the parish of Gurué, located in the Zambézia Province, became the setting for a celebration of rare spiritual and congregational fervor. During these two historic days, Deacons Ananias and Gabriel entered the priesthood, while Brother Roque was ordained a deacon the day after making his religious profession, giving concrete form to his definitive commitment to consecrated life.

The event gathered nearly one-third of the congregation’s members living in Mozambique. To mark this significant moment, the Provincial Superior, Father Carlitos, traveled to attend alongside two bishops and the Apostolic Nuncio. The presence of the Nuncio powerfully reaffirmed the full communion between the local Church and the universal Church.

Driven by the enthusiasm and joy of the faithful who gathered in large numbers, this assembly bore witness to remarkable ecclesial vitality. While the priestly ordination of Ananias and Gabriel ensures the continuity of Christ’s mission through the proclamation of the Word and the sacraments, Roque’s diaconate reaffirms the call to humble service, centered above all on the most needy.
